Disruptions to last for months

Disruptions to last for months

Yesterday, Maersk's CEO shared a sobering forecast, anticipating disruptions to last for months. While not an optimistic outlook, recent developments lend weight to this assessment.
Shippers, facing maximum disruption in their supply chains, grapple with larger detours and cargo discharge in transhipment hubs due to the Suez-to-round-Africa transition. As networks stabilize around Africa, disruptions are expected to ease, though not vanish entirely given the extended voyage.
Compounding matters, pre-crisis Red Sea-bound cargo now sits stranded in Asian hubs, causing surging rates and congestion due to limited feeder capacity.

In a concerning incident, the US-owned bulk vessel "Genco Picardy" fell prey to a one-way attack drone. Quick crew response averted disaster, extinguishing the resulting fire.
